China is one of the largest motor manufacturing countries, if we want to make our motor products to the world market, the energy efficiency level of motor products must meet the technical requirements of the international market. High-level product energy efficiency standards are of great significance to the transformation and upgrading of the industry. It is conducive to guiding and promoting motor manufacturers to actively carry out technological innovation, and is more conducive to promoting the overall technical capabilities of the motor industry. For the motor industry, in recent years, both international and domestic motor energy efficiency standards are in the stage of continuous upgrading, and the international consensus has been reached on IE3 as a mandatory energy efficiency standard.

On May 29, 2020, the State Administration of Market Supervision and Administration and the National Standardization Administration issued Announcement No. 13 of 2020, announcing the new standard of motor energy efficiency, "GB18613-2020 Motor Energy Efficiency Limits and Energy Efficiency Ratings". The new standard modifies the scope of application of the standard, and merges and updates the energy efficiency standards of the original small and medium-sized three-phase asynchronous motors and small power motors. In June next year will completely replace the GB18613-2012 and GB25958-2010 two energy efficiency standards.

For GB18163-2012, the new standard deletes the target energy efficiency limit value of the motor and the energy saving evaluation of the motor, improves the energy efficiency limit value requirement of the three-phase asynchronous motor, and increases the energy efficiency grade of the 8-pole motor. The standard is scheduled to be implemented on June 1, 2021, which means that by then, energy-efficient motors below IE3 will be forced to stop production, and the domestic motor industry will fully enter the "IE3 high-efficiency era".
